Thorn MD has its origin in a small Moscow suburb called Reutov, one of the hidden capitals of dark russian industrial arts. Being highly influenced with extreme metal in the 80-es (VoiVod, Mekong Delta, Celtic Frost), and then industrial and dark folk scene in the 90-es (Current 93, Death In June, Zoviet France, The Hafler Trio) he has shifted his main point of interest to electro, synth pop and minimal wave in early 2000-es (Bunker, Le Syndicat Electronique).
Despite many musical exercises done through many years under various names, Thorn MD is the first serious sound project made by the artist. Combining geniune russian blackness of Mamleyev fame with cold thrilling electronics and weird rhythmic syncopas, Thorn MD explores the current pre-apocalyptic state of the world, seeing far beyond the event horizon. The isolationist anxiety going pop, the acid inducing nightmare with a groovy attitude, the chtonic essence of funk, frozen by the closeness of permafrost – this is Thorn MD in the year 2009.
